And am I here to report writing progress? Well, kind of. I mean, writing, yes. Less progress maybe, but onward ever onward.
I have no news of a fabulous offer for representation from the agent of my dreams BUT: 1.) the book clubs continue to be an absolute joy to me, 2.) I finished novel #2 and it's out looking for love and literary representation, and 3.) the short story collection is resisting my efforts to get the herd of tales moving. So I've babbled on about book clubs, and novel #2 may or may not ever get turned loose on the unsuspecting public, but Good Has Come as a result of my short story problems.
En masse, my short stories don't go together comfortably. They seem to fall into incompatible categories: family drama vs. mental oddness vs. genre adventure, going from very short to fairly long. As a reading experience, it's chaotic and not in a good way.
So instead of announcing an anthology of stories available at all retail outlets, I present you with: A present!
Available on Kindle, Kobo, and AppleBooks, I give you a short, contemporary family drama story, under 10 pages long, entitled "The Sad Cancer Saloon." It's similar in tone if not theme as She Taught Me Everything, and for those sensitive, it does involve Hospice and parental loss.
Amazon, that behemoth making questionable decisions about the future of humankind, resists giving anything away, but the story should appear as either a $.99 or free item within the next couple of days. Looking to back away from Kindle? There's Kobo. Kobo respects my decision to give this story away, so it's free there. Plus, pro tip, you can use the Kobo app and read on your phone or desktop without buying an eReader. Quirky old Apple/iTunes allowed me to price the story at one penny, because—reasons? I don't know why and don't need to know, actually. Live and let live. For a penny. So a present of sorts. I hope you enjoy this short story! Happy New Year!
