Back to the Saltmines...

After the Great Summer Experiment of 2015 (three months together in under 100 square feet of living space! Whee!), Mr. Linton and I spent a few days putting the pieces of our neglected household back together.

Whereupon my favorite skipper and shipwright high-tailed it back to the boatworks.

He's been constructing a nameless* adventure boat since last spring. Formerly a modest stack of wood, it will eventually become a sloop and rowing vessel such as one might compete in the Everglades Challenge.

(*Still nameless despite the flood of suggestions.  We are now hoping that the boat's character will point us to the right name. Kind of like a stray pet: you spend kind of a lot of time trying various names in hope that at some combination of sounds, it will prick its ears and look up expectantly.) 



Features have begun to emerge: a stout bowsprit, air-tight flotation compartments in the middle of the boat, roomy hatches to the forward compartment.

Is this known as a "showboat" filter?

The deck will go on shortly. There's still a lot to do, including glassing and painting and rigging, but it's possible –– without squinting –– to picture the boat sailing by as soon as maybe November. Knock wood.
