Son of Frankenscot

11/25/2014

At the end of the 2014 Everglades Challenge, my favorite skipper TwoBeers and his sailing buddy Moresailesaid dismounted from their fine yacht Frankenscot and answered the following question briefly and definitively:
"Will you do this
300-mile
unsupported expedition-style race again?"

One said, "Uh, NO."

The other answered, "Absolutely!"

Fast-forward eight months.

Guess who is starting to plan his build of the  "Son of Frankenscot" for the 2016 Ultimate Challenge -- a circumnavigation of the entire state of Florida in five delightful stages?

Hmmm, cool. What's he building? I have suitable plans for lightweight dories, that can be sailed and rowed...really good Miss Amy rides. Would make a nice fishing boat too, which after all is what dories were originally used for.

The plans are not firmed up in any real way yet -- but by Christmas we should have a better idea...He does have ambitions for building a dory for fishing -- something like a McKenzie drift boat.
Stay tuned....

Yes. Planning on solo in Class 1. Also making early preparations for the 2016 UFC.

Call me Ishmael. No, wait, I mean "Bookworm."

Do you remember the rest of how Moby-Dick starts? It's: "Some years ago - never mind how long precisely - having little or no money in my purse, and nothing particular to interest me on shore, I thought I would sail about a little and see the watery part of the world. It is a way I have of driving off the spleen, and regulating the circulation. Whenever I find myself growing grim about the mouth; whenever it is a damp, drizzly November in my soul; whenever I find myself involuntarily pausing before coffin warehouses, and bringing up the rear of every funeral I meet; and especially whenever my hypos get such an upper hand of me, that it requires a strong moral principle to prevent me from deliberately stepping into the street, and methodically knocking people's hats off - then, I account it high time to get to sea as soon as I can. This is my substitute for pistol and ball. With a philosophical flourish Cato throws himself upon his sword; I quietly take to the ship."
